Wireless networks

Two wireless networks are available in most in-door areas on campus. We are working on extending the wireless coverage as use and demand has increased recently. If you find areas without coverage or with a weak signal, please contact us through UiBhjelp, or on phone 55584700.

eduroam

The eduroam network should be preferred for employees, students and guests from education institution in the org eduroam collaboration. We recommend eduroam because the communication is encrypted, more service are available, and the connection will automatically be available when visiting other eduroam institutions.

For more information and istructions, please see: eduroam.

uib-guest

As the name indicates, this is a network for guests who do not have a user account at UiB or other eduroam institutions. The network allows connection without authentication and without encryption. To connect to the Internet you must identify yourself and log in using your mobile phone number and a password sent by SMS. You may also log in with UiB user name and password.

For more informaton, please see: UiB-guest wireless network for guests.

Wired networks

Guest portal

In several of our buildings, connecting a private computer to any network outlet will connect you to a closed network with no automatic connection to the UiB net or the Internet. If you try to load a web page, traffic will be redirected to a guest portal where you may log in using your username and password, or mobile phone number and a password sent by SMS.

For more informaton, please see: Wired connection to the UiB network for guests.

VPN

The VPN service offers encrypted connection for users with an account at UiB, NHH (Norwegian School of Economics) or HiB (Bergen University College). The client may be connected to the UiB network by cable, to the open UiB wireless network, or connecting from other parts of the Internet..

For more information, please see VPN, Virtual private network.
